LESSON 023 · PRONOUNS
Understanding the topic · English notes
This and that are singular; these and those are plural. Demonstratives can replace nouns or come before them.
Use this/these for things presented as near and that/those for things presented as more distant. The distance can be in space, time or the conversation. When a demonstrative stands alone it is a pronoun; before a noun it functions as a determiner.

Why this pattern works
Use this/these for things presented as near and that/those for things presented as more distant. The distance can be in space, time or the conversation. When a demonstrative stands alone it is a pronoun; before a noun it functions as a determiner.
അടുത്തുള്ളതിനെ this, these എന്നും അകലെയുള്ളതിനെ that, those എന്നും സൂചിപ്പിക്കാം. ഏകവചനവും ബഹുവചനവും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക. Noun ഇല്ലാതെ these വന്നാൽ pronoun; these shoes എന്നതിൽ determiner ആണ്.
