Reported yes-no questions – Malayalam Notes

Learn reported yes-no questions with English and Malayalam notes, natural examples, phrasal verbs and practice answers.

LESSON 180 · REPORTED SPEECH

Understanding the topic · English notes

Report yes-no questions with if or whether and statement word order. Do not retain question inversion or question marks inside a reported statement.

Use asked + if/whether + subject + verb to report a yes-no question. Do not retain do-support or direct-question inversion in the embedded clause. A reported statement ends with a full stop even though the original message was a question.

Yes-no question റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ if/whether-ന് ശേഷം statement ക്രമം വേണം.

Yes/no ചോദ്യം റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ if/whether ചേർത്ത് statement ക്രമം ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. Did you…? എന്നതിലെ did ഉൾചോദ്യത്തിൽ നിലനിർത്തേണ്ടതില്ല. മുഴുവൻ വാക്യം statement ആണെങ്കിൽ full stop വേണം.

asked if/whether + subject + verb

Remember: The reporting clause can itself be a question and then needs a question mark.

Why this pattern works

Use asked + if/whether + subject + verb to report a yes-no question. Do not retain do-support or direct-question inversion in the embedded clause. A reported statement ends with a full stop even though the original message was a question.

Yes/no ചോദ്യം റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ if/whether ചേർത്ത് statement ക്രമം ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. Did you…? എന്നതിലെ did ഉൾചോദ്യത്തിൽ നിലനിർത്തേണ്ടതില്ല. മുഴുവൻ വാക്യം statement ആണെങ്കിൽ full stop വേണം.
