Perfect and passive gerunds – Malayalam Notes

Learn perfect and passive gerunds with English and Malayalam notes, natural examples, phrasal verbs and practice answers.

LESSON 162 · INFINITIVES, GERUNDS AND PARTICIPLES

Understanding the topic · English notes

Perfect -ing clauses can emphasize earlier action; passive -ing clauses show that the understood subject receives the action. Simpler forms may also be natural.

Having + participle emphasises that an -ing activity happened earlier. Being + participle is passive, while having been + participle combines earlier time and passive meaning. Use the simpler form when it conveys the timing clearly.

Being done passive ആണ്; having been done മുൻകാല passive.

Sentence pattern ·

having done; being taught; having been chosen

Remember: Avoid unnecessary complexity when ordinary -ing already expresses the relationship clearly.

Having + participle emphasises that an -ing activity happened earlier. Being + participle is passive, while having been + participle combines earlier time and passive meaning. Use the simpler form when it conveys the timing clearly.

Being done passive ആണ്; having been done മുൻകാല passive.
