LESSON 150 · CLAUSES

Understanding the topic · English notes

Relative who/whom refer to people, which to things, whose to possession, and that to people or things in defining clauses.

Choose a relative word for both its referent and its grammatical role. Whose shows possession; whom is a formal object form for people. That works in defining clauses but not ordinary non-defining relatives or immediately after a fronted preposition.

Comma relative-ൽ that സാധാരണ പറ്റില്ല.

Why this pattern works

Choose a relative word for both its referent and its grammatical role. Whose shows possession; whom is a formal object form for people. That works in defining clauses but not ordinary non-defining relatives or immediately after a fronted preposition.

Relative word തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുമ്പോൾ ആരെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു, clause-ൽ എന്ത് ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നിവ നോക്കുക. Whose ഉടമസ്ഥത; whom formal object രൂപം. Comma relative-ൽ that സാധാരണ പറ്റില്ല.
