Ditransitive patterns allow recipient and thing objects. Many permit either recipient-thing or thing-to/for-recipient, but the choice is verb-specific.
Some verbs permit give someone something and give something to someone. Others do not freely allow both orders; explain normally takes explain something to someone. A nearby phrasal verb does not change the object pattern of give or show.

Give me the book, give the book to me എന്നീ രണ്ട് ക്രമവും സാധ്യമാണ്. എല്ലാ verbs-നും ഇത് ബാധകമല്ല. Explain me എന്ന് പറയാതെ explain it to me എന്ന് പറയണം.
