Amounts, distances and periods viewed as single quantities often take singular agreement. Titles and some -s nouns can also be singular.
A plural-looking amount can take a singular verb when treated as one total. Titles name one work, and some -s nouns such as news are singular. If you mean separate units or individual items, the interpretation can change.
