LESSON 132 · CONJUNCTIONS AND CONNECTORS
Understanding the topic · English notes
Purpose can be expressed with to/in order to/so as to plus an infinitive, or so that plus a finite clause, often with a modal.
Use to/in order to for a purpose when the understood actor fits the main clause. Use so that with a subject and verb when you need to name the intended beneficiary or a different actor. Negative purpose can use so as not to.
