Some adverbs take -er/-est, while longer -ly adverbs usually use more/most. Well and badly have irregular comparison.
Compare how actions happen with an adverb, not an adjective. Fast becomes faster, while carefully becomes more carefully. Well becomes better and best; the is often optional with superlative adverbs depending on the construction.
