ഒരേ മേശയിൽ രണ്ട് ബാഗുകളുണ്ട്. നിങ്ങൾ “Pass me the bag” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാൽ ഏത് ബാഗാണെന്ന് സംശയം വരാം. “Pass me the bag that has a red tag” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാൽ കാര്യം വ്യക്തമാകും. That has a red tag എന്ന ഭാഗം bag നെക്കുറിച്ച് വിവരം നൽകുന്ന relative clause ആണ്.
ആളുകൾക്ക് who, വസ്തുക്കൾക്ക് which
“The woman who called you is my neighbour.” — നിങ്ങളെ വിളിച്ച സ്ത്രീ എന്റെ അയൽക്കാരിയാണ്. Who called you എന്ന ഭാഗം ഏത് സ്ത്രീയെന്ന് വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. “I found the charger which belongs to my brother.” — സഹോദരന്റെ ചാർജർ ഞാൻ കണ്ടെത്തി. Which belongs to my brother ചാർജറിനെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നു.
തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ വേണ്ട clause ൽ that ഉപയോഗിക്കാം
“The bus that stops near my house is usually crowded.” — വീടിനടുത്ത് നിർത്തുന്ന ബസിൽ സാധാരണ തിരക്കാണ്. “The person that answered the phone was helpful” എന്നും പറയാം. തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്ന clauses ൽ ആളുകൾക്ക് who അല്ലെങ്കിൽ that, വസ്തുക്കൾക്ക് which അല്ലെങ്കിൽ that ഉപയോഗിക്കാം. ആളുകളെ വിവരിക്കുമ്പോൾ who ഒരു സ്വാഭാവിക തുടക്കമാണ്.
Comma വന്നാൽ വിവരം അധികമായിരിക്കും
“My sister, who lives in Doha, is visiting next week.” — ദോഹയിൽ താമസിക്കുന്ന എന്റെ സഹോദരി അടുത്ത ആഴ്ച വരുന്നു. ഇവിടെ ഏത് സഹോദരിയെക്കുറിച്ചാണ് പറയുന്നത് എന്ന് സംസാരിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് വ്യക്തമാണ് എന്ന context കരുതാം. Who lives in Doha അധിക വിവരമാണ്. അത് commas കൊണ്ട് വേർതിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇത്തരം clause ൽ who അല്ലെങ്കിൽ which ഉപയോഗിക്കൂ. That ഈ comma pattern ൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കാറില്ല.
“The laptop that I use for work is old.” — ജോലിക്ക് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ലാപ്ടോപ്പ് പഴയതാണ്. ഇവിടെ that I use for work ഏത് laptop എന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ വേണം. അതിനാൽ commas ഇല്ല.
Relative word ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന സ്ഥലം
“The book that I bought yesterday is useful” → “The book I bought yesterday is useful.” ഇവിടെ I ആണ് bought ന്റെ subject. Book ആണ് വാങ്ങിയത്, അതിനാൽ object സ്ഥാനത്തെ that ഒഴിവാക്കാം. “The book that fell off the shelf is mine” എന്നതിൽ that തന്നെയാണ് fell ന്റെ subject. അവിടെ അത് സൂക്ഷിക്കണം.
