Negative scope determines what is denied. In standard edited English, negative words normally combine with non-negative alternatives rather than unintended double negatives.
Check what the negative covers. Not everyone means some may do it; no one means nobody does it. Standard edited English normally uses didn't tell anyone or told no one, while some dialects use negative concord systematically.
