WH questions ask for missing information. Object and adverbial questions normally keep auxiliary inversion; the WH expression comes first.
Put the WH expression first, then use the appropriate question structure. Ask about time with when, reason with why, and manner with how. When the WH word itself is the subject, a different pattern applies; see the next lesson.
