Understanding the topic · English notes
Present perfect links a past situation with the present, including results, experiences and continuing states. A finished past time normally calls for past simple.
Use have/has + past participle and connect the event to the present. A result can matter now even if the action is finished. Avoid combining this form with a finished time such as yesterday when directly locating that event; use past simple then.

Present perfect: positive, negative and question forms
- Positive: She has picked up the parcel.
- Negative: She has not picked up the parcel yet.
- Question: Has she picked up the parcel?
I, you, we, they എന്നിവയ്ക്കൊപ്പം have; he, she, it എന്നിവയ്ക്കൊപ്പം has ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. Negative ആക്കാൻ have/has-ന് ശേഷം not ചേർക്കുക. ചോദ്യത്തിൽ have/has subject-ന് മുമ്പിൽ വരും.
Present perfect or simple past?
I have sent the email. The result matters now. I sent the email yesterday. The finished past time is stated. Compare simple past and present perfect for more examples.
ഇപ്പോൾ പ്രസക്തമായ ഫലം പറയുമ്പോൾ present perfect ഉപയോഗിക്കാം. Yesterday, last week പോലുള്ള കഴിഞ്ഞ സമയത്തെ വ്യക്തമായി പറയുമ്പോൾ സാധാരണ simple past ഉപയോഗിക്കുക.
Common mistakes
- Incorrect: She have finished. Correct: She has finished.
- Incorrect: I have went. Correct: I have gone.
- Incorrect: I have called him yesterday. Correct: I called him yesterday.
Already, yet, ever and never
“I have already called her back” reports an action completed before now. “Have you ever tried it?” asks about experience. “I have never tried it” says there has been no such experience. In “She has not turned up yet,” yet means up to now.
