ടീച്ചർ ക്ലാസിൽ “Open your books” എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അത് വീട്ടിൽ പറഞ്ഞുകൊടുക്കുമ്പോൾ “The teacher told us to open our books” എന്ന് പറയാം. വാക്കുകൾ അതേപടി ആവർത്തിക്കാതെ എന്ത് ചെയ്യാൻ പറഞ്ഞു എന്ന് കൈമാറുകയാണ് ഇവിടെ.
Tell someone to do something
“Wait outside,” the receptionist said to me. → “The receptionist told me to wait outside.” — പുറത്ത് കാത്തിരിക്കാൻ റിസപ്ഷനിസ്റ്റ് എന്നോട് പറഞ്ഞു. Tell കഴിഞ്ഞ് ആരോടാണ് പറഞ്ഞത് എന്ന് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്ന me, us, him, her അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഒരു പേര് വേണം. അതിനു ശേഷം to + base verb വരും. “She told to wait” എന്നതിൽ നിർദേശം കിട്ടിയ ആൾ വിട്ടുപോയി.
Ask someone to do something
“Could you send me the link, please?” എന്ന് നിഷ നിങ്ങളോട് ചോദിച്ചാൽ “Nisha asked me to send her the link” എന്ന് റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യാം. — ലിങ്ക് അയച്ചുകൊടുക്കാൻ നിഷ എന്നോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. ഇവിടെ “Could you…?” ഒരു അഭ്യർത്ഥനയാണ്. അതിന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശ്യം asked me to എന്ന രൂപം കൃത്യമായി കൈമാറുന്നു.
വിവരം അറിയാനുള്ള ചോദ്യം വേറൊരു രീതിയിലാണ്. “Did you send the link?” → “Nisha asked me if I had sent the link.” ആദ്യത്തേതിൽ ലിങ്ക് അയയ്ക്കാൻ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. രണ്ടാമത്തേതിൽ നേരത്തെ അയച്ചോ എന്ന് അന്വേഷിച്ചു.
Advise someone to do something
“Practise a little every day,” my trainer said. → “My trainer advised me to practise a little every day.” — ദിവസവും കുറച്ചുനേരം പരിശീലിക്കാൻ എന്റെ പരിശീലകൻ എന്നെ ഉപദേശിച്ചു. Advise എന്നത് ചെയ്യുന്നത് നല്ലതാണെന്ന് നിർദേശിക്കുമ്പോൾ യോജിക്കും. ഒരേ വാക്കുകൾ പോലും സാഹചര്യമനുസരിച്ച് instruction, request, advice എന്നിവയിൽ ഏതുമാകാം.
Negative instruction ൽ not to
“Don’t open the parcel yet.” → “My sister told me not to open the parcel yet.” — പാർസൽ ഇപ്പോൾ തുറക്കരുതെന്ന് സഹോദരി എന്നോട് പറഞ്ഞു. “Please don’t call during the meeting.” → “He asked me not to call during the meeting.” Meeting സമയത്ത് വിളിക്കരുതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം അഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചു. ഇവിടെ not to + base verb എന്ന ക്രമം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കൂ.

- Latha said to me, “Could you hold this bag, please?”
- My trainer said, “Don’t rush through the exercise.” ഇത് ഉപദേശമായി റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യൂ.
മാതൃകാ ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ. 1. The teacher told the students to write their names at the top. 2. Latha asked me to hold the bag. 3. My trainer advised me not to rush through the exercise.
പതിവ് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ
“Asked me to” എന്നതും “asked me if” എന്നതും എപ്പോൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കും? ഒരു പ്രവൃത്തി ചെയ്യാൻ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാൽ to. അതെ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഇല്ല എന്ന് മറുപടി പറയാവുന്ന വിവരം ചോദിച്ചാൽ if അല്ലെങ്കിൽ whether.
Past reporting verb വന്നാൽ “to wait” എന്നത് “to waited” ആകുമോ? To കഴിഞ്ഞ് base verb ആണ്. “She told me to wait” എന്ന രൂപം പരിശീലിക്കൂ.
