Common nouns name classes; proper nouns identify particular people, places or institutions and normally begin with capitals.

A common noun can name any member of a group; a proper noun identifies a particular one. Names of people, cities and countries begin with capital letters. The name is useful when identifying a real destination or person, but ordinary sentences do not need a place name.
